"Going to the Dogs"
A million thanks to our clients and partners who helped us raise over $10,000 in charitable contributions by liking us on Facebook in 2011! We contributed to some amazing charities, including National Mill Dog Rescue, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, St Baldricks (which also gave us a great excuse to shave some heads in our offices!), Habitat for Humanity, Toys for Tots, and Susan G Komen.
In 2012, we’ll be partnering with you, our clients, to contribute to your favorite charities. If you have a charity you’d like Decipher to partner on, please reach out to us! We’ll donate $10 for every new “like” on our Facebook page (up to $1,000) each month.
To kick off our charitable giving campaign in 2012, we’re “going to the dogs”. Recently, our President, Kristin Luck, had the opportunity to spend a little bit of time in Bali. During her stay, she volunteered at BAWA – the Bali Animal Welfare Association (BAWA). This not-for-profit organization is dedicated to improving the lives of animals, while relieving suffering and overpopulation through medical care, spay and neuter, adoption and education in animal welfare. BAWA supports a fully staffed clinic, a 24 hour animal ambulance, a mobile sterilization clinic, an education program, a puppy adoption program, plus a continually expanding range of community programs. We are proud to support this hard-working charity for our January Facebook charity program. Every new like to our page in the month of January results in a $10 gift to BAWA. Why is this charity so important? According to statistics, in Bali alone, the number of stray dogs is estimated at 500,000 and a rabies epidemic underway since 2008 has already killed nearly 100 people. Despite culling somewhere between 120,000 and 200,000 dogs, and vaccinating an estimated 262,000 dogs, the epidemic rages on. In the face of the continuing epidemic and shortages of human anti-rabies vaccines, the government has banned dogs from the streets altogether -- perhaps the first at-large law imposed in this part of the world.
