From the teeming streets of Mumbai all the way to sun-kissed beaches of Miami – that’s where you’d have found Decipher during 2011. President Kristin Luck spends much of her time on the road, meeting with prospective clients and educating the industry about topics ranging from marketing strategy to mobile research methods. By attending conferences and sharing expertise in the marketing research space, we hope to continue to push the industry to the next level – spurring innovation and creating opportunities to better serve our clients.
So where in the world were we this past year? Kristin kicked off her slate of speaking engagements by serving on an all-women panel that covered the state of the market research industry at IIR’s Technology Conference in Chicago. Sharing the stage with Roxana Strohmenger, a Forrester analyst and Kristin Schwitzer, president of Beacon Research, this was the first female panel of its kind in an industry where technology leadership is typically dominated by the “other” gender.
The beauty of Kelowna Canada welcomed Kristin next, where she sat on a panel “The survey respondent- headed for extinction?” and had the chance to reconnect with her Canadian research colleagues. Next up was the Big Apple, where Kristin shared Decipher’s strategy around Evolving Mobile Research Methods at the CASRO Technology Conference. In November we hit ESOMAR’s 3D Conference in Miami to talk about the convergence of multiple digital platforms and its effect on the industry. Next up was The Market Research Event in Orlando, participating as an industry speaker (again…on mobile!) in the thought leader section of the conference program.
Forget the turkey and pilgrims, we were halfway around the world at Thanksgiving – presenting on the “Delicate Art of Rebranding” for the World Brand Congress in Mumbai, India. Next stop was Ghent, Belgium for BAQMaR, where Kristin conducted a workshop on the Future of Mobile Market Research.
With nearly 2 ½ weeks a month on the road and over 247,000 miles traveled this year alone, we often get asked “why do we do it?” Sharing knowledge is a great way to push our industry forward and serves as a reminder to the Decipher team that we must continue to innovate and refresh the tools and strategies we use to deliver actionable results.
But we didn’t just spend time traveling. We also shared knowledge through several in depth articles in industry publications including two front cover stories in Survey Magazine (one on innovation and one year-end “best of 2011” wrap up), feature articles on ROI for online research communities and mobile research in Quirks, and a regular column by Kristin in the Research Business Report.
All this hard work didn’t go unrecognized! In early 2011, Kristin won the Portland Business Journal’s prestigious Forty Under 40 award, a program that annually recognizes leadership in business, business recognition and community involvement. She also was recognized by the national Best in Biz awards in the Executive of the Year category, and ranked in the top five market research “tweeters” on Twitter by Research-live.com’s 2011 MRX Tweet Awards. As a company, Decipher was ranked in both the Lead411 2011 Technology 500 and in the Inc. 5000 of America’s Fastest Growing Private Companies.
