About Chandra LaFrentz

I am an Account Manager at Decipher, Inc and have been with the company since March 2006. I came to Decipher straight out of graduate school. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Angelo State University in Texas and my Master of Science degree in Criminology from California State University, Fresno. I completed 2 years of post-graduate work at the University of Nebraska, Omaha where I completed research on racial and gender disparity in Federal sentencing practices. Although my education has an emphasis in criminology, there was much focus in research methodology and statistical analysis. This educational background provided a strong base for market research, from which Decipher built upon.

I worked out of Decipher's Fresno office from 2006 through 2008, but I currently telecommute from north-central Montana where I enjoy baking, gardening, camping/backpacking, and hunting during my free-time.

I have news. BIG news. Butter doesn't come from the store (well, it does eventually, but you know what I meant). But it's beginnings are in sweet milk (that's farm talk for "fresh milk"). When fresh/raw milk is left to sit, it naturally separates into skim milk and cream layers, with the cream layer on top. This cream layer is full of proteins and fat. When the cream is agitated, the fat globules stick together and form butter. Incidentally, the by-product is called buttermilk. Read more »

I don't know how big the story is nation-wide, but in Montana its huge. On January 7, 2012, Sherry Arnold of Sidney, MT set off for an early morning jog. She hasn't come home yet and 2 men are currently in custody. Sidney is about 350 miles from my home - but this story has really shaken me because up until now, I've felt very safe in my community. I haven't hesitated to go for a pre-dawn run by myself. I've never thought twice about my safety. Read more »

2011 has been an exciting year. A year of accomplishments and personal growth. It was a year full of changes and I have a lot to be thankful for. But I still welcome 2012 with open arms - excited to see what the year will bring.

As I've heard just about every year since I started working at Decipher:

May the best of 2011 be the worst of 2012! Read more »

Well, I did it. I have officially completed my first ½ marathon (13.1 miles). I ran the Las Vegas Rock n’ Roll ½ marathon with 44,000 head of cattle other runners. The race started at 5:30pm and they closed down the entire strip for us. We ran from Mandalay Bay, past the Stratosphere, and back to Mandalay Bay. Read more »

A Praire Thanksgiving

1 comment posted on 11.24.2011

Much like the participants of the original Thanksgiving, this year my family gave thanks for everything we are blessed with – including a bountiful harvest. During our spring planting, I decided that Thanksgiving 2011 would be an experiment in using our harvest for our Thanksgiving celebration.

I am happy to report that our Thanksgiving meal was a resounding success! Read more »

It's Go Time...

It's go time (...well in 2 weeks)....

  • Eight months of training
  • 425.55 miles (with 49.1 miles to go until I cross the finish line)
  • 3 pairs of shoes
  • One sprained ankle
  • 2 bottles of ibuprofen
  • 4 ice baths
  • 86 hours of pavement pounding
  • ~45,000 calories burned

All of that to run one 13.1 mile race (with my bestest friend in the world).

Worth it? You bet.

With Halloween rapidly approaching, it feels like the right time to discuss survival techniques for the Zombie Apocalypse. Even if it doesn’t happen on Halloween this year, 2012 (and the end of the world) is just around the corner. So I’d say you’ve got about 2 months to get prepared.

1:  Training – You’ve got to get yourself in shape. Zombies are dead. That means there’s no stopping to catch your breath because the un-dead don’t take breathers (because they don’t breathe). Read more »

Kickin' Assphault 10K

I just finished my first 10K. I've run the distance many times, but never in a race environment. I am always amazed at how much I learn every time I race - about running and about life.

OK. So it wasn't a complete epic failure. But I thought so Friday night/Saturday morning. In fact, I almost called it quits and came home 2 days early!

Step 1:  In the hours before you leave, dig a hole in the backyard (where the phone company said there WASN'T a phone line) and cut the phone line by accident. Also, find a gas leak in the house. This will ensure that you start your trip with plenty of negative vibes. (Don't worry, the gas is shut off...our house isn't going to explode). Read more »
